This painting is of a friend named Thomas. He is really quarky, funny, and smart, and gross :) I met him at Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio visiting my boyfriend throughout the year. They are very good friends. My boyfriend actually took this picture when they were at a rally in D.C. for Pro-Choice. I loved the picture and decided to paint it and this is how it came out. Mostly, when you paint from a picture, you get a very flat effect. I don't know if this painting really pops out at me since it is from a flat image where there is no direct lighting source or shape/contour/tangible subject to draw from. I still really love this painting though. Lately, it has been a much different experience painting from life, I can really tell the difference.
